A darling of new enthusiasts and seasoned collectors alike, Oris has fired the latest shot in what has become a water resistance arms race. Unsurprisingly, the new super dive watch hails from the Aquis line, which is Oris’ most modern and capable tool watch family. It is the most water resistant watch Oris has ever created, and it features a host of innovations.
The Oris Aquis Pro 4000M is a titanium watch with a case diameter of 49.5mm. It is 55mm lug to lug with 22mm lug widths. It features what Oris calls the Rotation Safety System (RSS), which is a bezel locking mechanism that prevents accidental rotation of the timing bezel while diving. The rubber edge of the bezel must be lifted in order to unlock the stainless steel inner timing ring. The bezel itself is also fully lumed – blue for the first fifteen minutes and then green for the remainder. The hour markers and hands are lumed in blue. The accompanying rubber strap also includes a new security folding clasp system that allows adjustments to be made without taking the watch off. The Aquis Pro 4000M is water resistant to, well, 4000 meters.
Powering the Aquis Pro 4000M is the automatic Oris Caliber 400. A top-of-the-line Oris movement, it boasts a five day power reserve, elevated anti-magnetism, and a date complication. It beats at 4 Hz (28,8000 bph) and is accurate to -3/ 5 seconds a day. Oris offers a two year warranty, which can be extended by joining the MyOris program and registering.
